Urban Redevelopment. The Hellenikon site presents a great challenge because of its potential role in the life of Athenians. It is unique both in its scale (5.700.000 m2 liberated by the relocation of the Athens airport) and its location along a touristic coast line in a short distance from the city centre. Moreover, it is surrounded by urbanised areas which lack public facilities and open spaces. The interdisciplinary studio’s projects combine innovative ideas with practical design solutions so as to address the general question of how large tracts of land within a metropolitan area, formerly the sites of major infrastructure improvements, can be redeveloped to productively address different scales of urban life.
