Historical, political or economic context in which the plan/project is proposed

Belapur incremental housing project emerged as a necessity to create mass affordable housing in New Bombay (Navi Mumbai), India. Charles Correa’s housing design aimed at creating high density, low rise courtyard housing units paying attention to vernacular and cultural aspects of the design. The housing units set around communal courtyards allowed each family to extend and adapt their unit independently.
