Historical, political or economic context in which the plan/project is proposed
Reconstruction plan; the plan for the rehabilitation of Arles provides for building ‘thinning’ operations within the architectural area of the old city, respecting the 'character' of the ancient city. The project is entrusted to Pierre Vago (1946) appointed architecte en chef de la Reconstruction of the western sector of the Bouches-du-Rhône Department and of three historic cities damaged during the Second World War: Arles, Tarascon and Beaucaire. Pierre vago was an architect, urban planner and architectural historian; he was one of the founders, together with André Bloc, of the magazine "L'Architecture d'Aujourd'hui", as well as the main promoter of the International Union of Architects (UIA).
