Historical, political or economic context in which the plan/project is proposed

Dozens of newt towns were planned by the military regime along the recently opened Transamazonian Highway in 1972. The governmental colonization enterprise was based on garden city ideals and rationalist urban form. In 1974 the whole project was abandoned.
