Hisoria do Urbanismo Europeo
Donatella Calabi
Abstract
Since XIX century with an accelerated process of migration from rural areas to the city, the search for a more rational organization of settlements, hygienic conditions, mobility and urban functions, as well as conservation of historical sites and monuments were the most important subjects of the planning activity in European and North American cities and became huge goals for the municipal and regional governments. The Urban space not only could decide of the consolidation of a number of towns, but also of their political and economic power in an international context of the modern age. This book, which was already published in Italy in 2008, now revised, focuses on questions, tools and case-studies all over Europe in the last 150 years.
