Abstract

This thematic node explores the projects, authors, and concepts related to the design of transport infrastructures in cities. After the explosion of the railway system and, more specifically, the motor vehicles, 19th and 20th Century cities have performed a hard transformation of their urban form, meaning, and social equilibrium. In this process, many architects collaborated with engineers to fit high-speed movement into fragile urban tissues, encouraged by the optimistic utopia of functionalism. This node aims to shed light on relevant urban design experiences where mobility infrastructure and city meet.
